Description

The best from two worlds! - The JACKALOPE Onyx Hybrid Bow

With the Onyx, the JACKALOPE family gains a new, extraordinary member: A distinctive competition bow with impressive characteristics and interesting contrasts. During the development, we mainly focused on the best competition performance, which has been achieved with inimitable precision, absolutely no hand shock and top-notch shooting performance. We were able to accomplish these feats with the use of modern and natural materials, such as carbon, Teknowood, bamboo and rosewood, which in combination also provide the beautiful visual contrasts.

The handle area is made of naturally grown rosewood and highly stable micarta, giving it its unmistakable character. Rosewood forms the core and is a heavy, hard wood that gives the grip area something very natural with its exceptionally decorative grain as well as warm tones while the black and white details made of teknowood stand in contrast. The handle is framed by a layer of high-quality bamboo wood, which extends all the way up to the tips of the limbs. Of course, no compromises were made with these either: Carbon on the front and black glass laminate ensure maximum performance and the highest arrow speeds. Depending on the weight of the arrow, speeds of 230fps and more are absolutely no problem. Oh, and another pretty important thing: The JACKALOPE longbows comply with IFAA rules and are allowed in competitions!

The bows and risers are named after the onyx, a strong and protective power stone. It is said to help build emotional and physical strength. The Onyx also protects against negativity and fear, according to an ancient Japanese wisdom: "Fear reaches only as deep as our mind allows it to.
Since ancient times, it has been said that the onyx strengthens intuition and enhances the senses. And who would not like to appear more focused and confident on the parcours or in competitions? Tradition assures us that those who firmly believe in their onyx will achieve everything they want. There could not be a better name for this breathtaking bow.

But the fascination does not end with the design and the name: The finesse of its bow type - the hybrid bow - will certainly also convince you! No wonder, the hybrid bow combines the best characteristics from two worlds: While at first glance it is recognizable as a traditional longbow, where, for example, the string only touches the tips but not the limbs, at 64 inches of length it is too short to be a "true" longbow, however. It compensates for the lack of size with the typical feature of a recurve bow, the obvious recurve-shaped limbs, and thus combines the characteristics of a longbow with those of a recurve bow on the other hand. The result is a compact bow with a particularly smooth draw, outstanding performance, high arrow speeds and an almost zero hand shock.

Characteristics

Right-handed or left-handed?

Determination of the draw hand

The draw hand is the hand that pulls the string. This means that a right-handed bow is held in the left hand and drawn with the right hand.

Determining your personal draw hand has far less to do with whether you are left-handed or right-handed than you might initially assume. It is much more about determining the dominant eye. The dominant eye is used for aiming. This then automatically results in the draw hand.

The term dominant eye refers to the eye whose visual information is superimposed on everything. If a shooter tried to aim with the other eye, he would have to close the dominant eye.

There are two ways of determining the dominant eye: On the one hand, it is the eye that is generally favoured, for example when looking through the viewfinder of a camera, through the peephole or similar situations. On the other hand, there is a small exercise that can be used to determine the dominant eye beyond doubt:

  • The arms are stretched out and a triangle is formed with the thumbs and index fingers of both hands.
  • A small target is aimed at through the triangle, for example a socket or a cupboard knob. Focus on this object.
  • The hands are now slowly brought towards the face without taking the target object out of focus.
  • The triangle of thumb and index fingers will involuntarily tend towards one side of the face and this is where the dominant eye is located.

If the dominance of the eye and hand do not match, the bow should still be selected according to eye dominance. The arms can be easily retrained for the new draw hand, but not the eye.
