SPHERE Insert - ID 6.2 mm
The insert serves as a connecting element between the arrow shaft and the screw tip. Its main function is to create a stable and precise holder for the tip.
Characteristics and function
- The insert is glued into the shaft and has an internal thread into which the screw tip can be screwed.
- The insert reinforces the front area of the carbon shaft. Although carbon is very stable, the thin walls of the shafts could be damaged by repeated impacts or the insertion of the adhesive tip. The insert distributes the forces and protects the shaft from fraying or breaking at the end.
- Inserts naturally have their own weight. By choosing the right insert, the archer can influence the FOC (front of centre) of the arrow. The FOC describes how far the centre of gravity of the arrow is shifted forward. An optimal FOC is crucial for a stable and accurate arrow flight. Heavier inserts shift the centre of gravity further forward.
- The standardised internal thread allows a wide range of different screw-in tips (field tips, broadheads) to be used. This gives the shooter flexibility when changing tips.
- A correctly seated and cleanly glued insert ensures that the tip is perfectly aligned with the arrow shaft. Incorrect alignment would result in an uneven arrow flight.
- Inserts are usually glued into the arrow shaft with special hot glue or 2-component epoxy glue. The glue ensures a permanent hold and seals the connection.
