WILDCRETE 3D Wildcat
The serval is a wild cat native to Africa. It is rare in North Africa and the Sahel, but widespread in sub-Saharan Africa, except for the rainforest areas. Throughout its range, it lives in protected areas and hunting is either prohibited or regulated.
The serval is slender and medium-sized. It is characterised by a small head, large ears, a golden yellow to sand-coloured coat with black spots and stripes, and a short, black-tipped tail. Relative to its body size, the serval has the longest legs of any cat. The serval is a solitary carnivore and is active both during the day and at night. It hunts rodents, especially vlei rats, small birds, frogs, insects and reptiles, using its hearing to locate prey. It jumps over 2 m high to land on its prey with its front paws and finally kills it with a bite to the neck or head.
Both sexes have heavily overlapping territories of 10 to 32 km², which they mark with faeces and saliva.
